Conversations with Creators with Wil Wheaton

 WHAT 

Create the logo, key art, and all associated digital material across owned channels for an original episodic series that is a round table discussion hosted by Wil Wheaton (celebrity, gamer, and self proclaimed pop culture/comic nerd) with leading AAA game developers and executives. The episodes were available on PlayStation Store, accessible through the web and console.

 

 WHY 

Conversations with Creators was the first original content for PlayStation Network, available to PSN members. It was intended to provide extra non-game value to members by creating original content focused on video game topics and culture that would be relevant to the PSN audience.

At the time, the network business was growing and there was a need to increase awareness of the digital side of the business. PlayStation Network was the umbrella brand of PlayStation's video, music, online multiplayer, and digital e-commerce services.

 HOW 

The execution needed to relate to the PlayStation brand, but could not leverage the primary brand visual, which at the time was PS4's "flow." I used the primary brand fonts, taking cues from the "Greatness Awaits" tagline, and keeping everything in the blue brand values. Having Wil Wheaton as a host was a big draw so marketing wanted him to be the prominent feature. Additionally because it was episodic and each episode would feature a different game/studio, there was a desire to not focus on game key art.
